A couple days before the ANRA opener at the fabled Famoso Dragstrip Ashley and Kenny volunteered to put a little lipstick on the Pig. Ok, well, Ashley volunteered and dragged Kenny in.
You can't always run good, but you can always look good!
On Friday morning, me and B, followed by Kenny and Ashley headed up the road to meet up with our sizable contingent of pit-mates and Flying Pig Racing teammates. By luck, happenstance, and the grace of Butchie we managed to get (count 'em) 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 yep 7 pit stalls in close proximity to each other. And this on a day that ANRA had possibly its largest car count ever. I heard close to 400 racers on property.

Man, what a group! We had a blast. Friday, set up day, was pretty mellow. We had the traditional hot dog feast for lunch, and pretty much ooh'd and ahh'd at all the pretty race cars, and told big tales about off-season changes and improvements 😁
When evening rolled around we drug out the fire pits, BBQ'd some chicken and waited for the rain...

Saturday was a total bust! Woke up to rain, cooked in the rain and went to bed with rain and pretty much had rain in between. But we had a blast hanging out and talking about the weather like a bunch of (ahem) old men. And Zac came up with a stellar idea: we're gonna have a Flying Pig "team championship" 🏆 this year. Each of us will get 1 championship point for each round win. We'll tally 'em up at the end of the season and crown a champ! Should be cool. And a little extra incentive!

Oh, and almost everyone had quality time with Kenny's dogs 🤣
There was a short period of clear skies during which the junior dragster class got in a qualifying pass, but they were the only cars to go down the track that day. Bright spot: Wayne's wife Ai came up with a couple girlfriends and got to enjoy some time at the track!
And then the boys surprised me big time with a birthday cake! Look at that cake!!
Shout out to Wingman's wife Pam for that!
So...Sunday came around looking racey, and the task at hand was improbably large. One round of qualifying and eliminations in the same day. I don't think anyone had any expectations that this was possible, but we were game to take a crack at it. As it turned out, Hot Rod with over 100 cars was given 2 eliminations rounds and all other classes got in 1 round. The remainder of this race will be contested the day before the June race.
In a nutshell, Woolly and I won round 1 in Hot Rod, Zac won round 1 in NE3. Wayne and Rick went out in round 1.
In the second round of Hot Rod I won and Woolly lost. So Zac and I are still in the hunt...for an ANRA trophy and for team Flying Pig points.
Can't wait to get back to racing in early June. This Flying Pig crew is amazing!
